Little Cookbook of Inspiration

little cookbookLate 2012, Audrey Birt, the then Director of Breakthrough Breast Cancer Scotland, was a guest at a Women in Banking in Finance Spotlight Supper I hosted. I was inspired by her personal story and passion for the charity, sharing that Breakthrough had just launched an initiative, in conjunction with Independent Women, called Breakthrough 100. They were seeking 100 Scottish Businesswomen, each to commit to raising £1000 for the charity. You’ll no doubt have read Karen’s inspirational efforts and her long walk round Scotland to raise money as a member of the B100 community.

Well, I decided to join after that supper. Too many of us have been impacted, directly or indirectly, by breast cancer. It’s the most common cancer in the UK, with around 50,000 women and 400 men diagnosed each year. Breakthrough Breast Cancer funds 25% of all UK research into Breast Cancer.

My personal inspiration was my 11 year old daughter, Amanda. I was motivated to support a charity that has a real chance of influencing her ability to grow up in a world where breast cancer is not a life threatening disease.

So what did I do? I had a cocktail party, baked cakes, physically completed the Spartan Race and raised my £1k, but I also had an idea to create a recipe book as a way to raise money, albeit quickly realising that it would be a lot of work and I probably couldn’t do it on my own. I was extremely lucky to be supported by two of my friends and colleagues: Sue Rees and Catherine Mather, who suggested we do it together and as a trio we have created and published a “Little Cookbook of Inspiration “. Sue and Catherine joined the Breakthrough 100 community as part of the journey too which was just fantastic!

We raised money through advertising to pay for the production of the books, so all the money raised through selling books is being donated to Breakthrough. Asking friends, family and colleagues, we collected 30 favourite recipes and the stories that go with them, so that you can enjoy them straight from the heart!

Want one (or more)? They will be great stocking fillers.

It’s really easy!

They are £5 each. We can post for an additional £1.20 per book, or arrange collection in the centre of Edinburgh. You can order/donate via our Just Giving page, please remember to complete your email address so we can get in touch and ensure you get them.

We hope that you enjoy the cookbook and thank you on behalf of Breakthrough Breast Cancer for your support!
