Confidence – To Have or To Have Not

Much debate has gone into whether we have or do not have enough confidence to survive on this journey of life. One thing we all seem to agree on is that there is always someone else who has more confidence than we do!

For many of us, we are continuously striving to claim a bit more confidence in order to gain all the riches that life has promised for us. Whether it’s improving our brand, our speech, our figure, our face or embarking on another round of qualifications to boost our self esteem. We still have to work on the lack of confidence we have because of our upbringing; our environment; our education; our culture; our religion; our partner; our job; our gender or is it simply a lack confidence because “I am ME?”

Oprah Winfrey said it perfectly “I don’t think of myself as a poor deprived ghetto girl who made good. I think of myself as somebody who from an early age knew I was responsible for myself, and I had to make good.”

Ladies, no one can make you feel insecure about yourself apart from yourself. It’s quite simple; you make a decision every second of the day as to whether you are going to be happy or not. Those thoughts govern your actions for the rest of the day, week, month, year and life. When you consciously decide to embrace fear, uncertainty and lack – you operate from a place of insecurity and low self esteem. Your actions and results will produce your expectations – failure, disappoint and tragedy.

But have no fear, this type of thinking is a learned behaviour which can be challenged and defeated if you are ready to become the heavyweight champion of YOU!

If you are ready to live the life that you most want to live, you have to give yourself PERMISSION to claim what is yours in this life. Your right to a blissful life on passion is based on a clear vision of what you want out of YOUR life and the conviction to do the work necessary to overcome the internal fears and external challenges that stop you from living your one and only, unique life.

If you are ready to step into the greatness of YOU then read my 3 simple steps for confidence success.

1. Change Your Attitude!
The most powerful lesson you can learn about change is ‘Know Thyself‘
Your attitude is the most powerful characteristic that you can control. By creating your own reality you can attract the circumstances, events and even people into your life once you understand how to apply simple techniques and principles to change your life for the better. Be ruthless about transforming your attitude. This means reading empowering books, watching inspirational movies and listening to motivating CDs that help to promote a positive mental attitude. Drop the dream stealers and emotional vampires in your life and start to associate with winners and people who will help to keep you positive and enthusiastic about attracting success in your life. Choose to focus on what is constructive and positive in life.

Edward Rickenbacker says “think positively and masterfully, with confidence and faith, and life become more secure, more fraught with action, richer in experience and achievement.”

Is it time for you to change your attitude?

2. Develop a Strong Self Belief
Have an unshakeable belief in the greatness of YOU.
Step into your greatness! Love you, cherish you and more importantly, accept you as defined by YOU! Do not define yourself by the opinion of others or the less favourable choices of the past; but by the positive characteristics and qualities you possess.

Whether you are striving for a promotion in your career; building your business or seeking more fulfilling relationships we will all suffer setbacks and challenges at some point of the journey. However, you must never become a victim to circumstance or your past. Do not become frustrated or angry, simply focus on the valuable lessons and understand where you need to improve, as you forge ahead to achieve your goals in life.

If you don’t believe me just think of Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb after his seven hundredth unsuccessful attempt to invent an electric light. He said ‘I have not failed seven hundred times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those seven hundred ways will not work. When I have eliminated all the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.’

3. Always Bounce Back
You may not always know the answer or how to tackle certain aspects of your career, business or personal relationships but always feel courageous and act with courage in order to keep going!

Life will knock you down more times than you would like, but be resilient and develop a Teflon mentality and bounce back. Learn to be comfortable, feeling uncomfortable as you take the spotlight in your life.

You cannot always operate at peak performance. You need time to train, to rest, to nurture and to be! When things don’t go to plan, don’t operate from a place of insecurity but develop and implement self boosting strategies to get you out of a challenging situation. Visualise positive outcomes and affirmations to as part of your empowering techniques to help you bounce back from setbacks or challenges without it negatively affecting your thoughts and behaviour.

In closing, when things feel like they are getting on top of you, preserve an optimistic and can-do perspective. You will find yourself flourishing and blossoming in your new found confidence as you live your best life ever! Remember, confidence is not for other people it’s something that you can just do to have an enriching and fulfilling life.

I leave you with the words of Herm Albright. “A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.”

The next Sistatalk Motivational Workshop takes place on Wednesday 24th November at the Holiday Inn Bloomsbury, London between 6:00pm – 9:00pm.
